Don’t underestimate the importance of choosing colors while working with us to design your vehicle wrap. It’s one of the most impactful parts of the wrap and the first thing potential customers will notice.
At Tooley Imports Australia, we’re your color and parts replacement experts. Without getting too techy, we’ll give you a rundown of the process.
Vehicle wraps are made up of small drops of ink, usually in Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black (CMYK). These four colors combine to create a rainbow of color possibilities. However, depending on the type of printer a designer is using, the color scope can be limited.
In contrast, the pixels in computer monitors create color using Red, Green and Blue (RGB). The same is true for smart phones, tablets and TVs. Even though this may seem like less available color than CMYK, RGB devices can actually create a brighter color and better color spectrum than is possible with a CMYK printer.
Why does this matter? If you’re working with a graphic designer who isn’t familiar with the CMYK printing process, then the colors of your finished product can be drastically different than what you saw on your screen during proofs. Bright or neon colors, like orange and green, will be dull on a car wraps print.
Another thing to keep in mind when designing your vehicle wrap is the particular printer and the materials they will use to print your wrap. Each printer is unique; even printers that are the same make and model produce the same colors in a slightly different fashion.
The slightest detail, down to the brand of ink, can affect the way a color looks when printed. Even the cleaning and maintenance of a printer can affect how a color is presented on paper.
Gearworks Media is serious about using the best color in your vehicle wraps. We make sure our printing equipment is kept in good working order, testing and performing regular maintenance to ensure top quality.
To confirm your choice of colors, we have printed swatch books from our in-house printer so you’ll always know what your selected colors will look like when printed. We print out color proofs on the exact material before printing our final artwork. http://www.gearworksmedia.com/2012/08/29/vehicle-wrap-hard-proof/
